Dr Sajid Azam has had over 30 years experience in all aspects of General practice. He has served on the panel of examiners for doctors entering into the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He is a Fellow of the Australian Medical Acupuncture College, a HIC accredited Medical Acupuncturist and has special interests in Geriatrics and Natural Therapies.

He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the UOW Post Graduate School of Medicine and teaches medical students at Russell Vale Family Medical and Acupuncture Practice.

Dr Azam is committed to providing the highest quality of care to patients and ensures this by attending on going educational conferences and meetings. Dr Azam is a fellow with the RACGP. He is married with 6 children, he enjoys sports, reading and relaxes by spiritual meditation.

Dr Azam has been a senior clinical lecturer with the UOW Graduate School of Medicine since 2007 and this practice has been used as a teaching facility by the UOW since its commencement in 2007.

Dr Azam has served on the examination panel of the RACGP since 2000. He also won the 2009 and 2014 Illawarra Family GP of the Year award.

Nina has studied Arts/Psychology at the University of Wollongong and has completed a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Advanced Social Work Practice from Charles Sturt University. She is trained in mediation and is a bilingual, Arabic, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker AMHSW and a fellow of the Australian Association of Social Workers. She is the Managing Director of the Practice, a former ABC Advisory Council member and is a Cross Cultural Consultant.

Nina is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and specializes in Trauma informed Practice.

She supports victims as an approved Victims Services counselor and is available to provide  therapy and psycho-education both in the Practice or the community through a GP Mental Health Care Plan (GPMHCP) or Psychiatrist referral both in the Illawarra and East Hills area,

Nina is experienced in community capacity building through extensive volunteering in local interfaith peace initiatives and a multicultural cancer support  group. She is experienced working with refugees, families  and the elderly, with a special interest in end of life and palliative care social work.

She is the founder and CEO of Self Actualize Australia LTD., a NFP that provides counselling, training and community development initiatives based at Holistic Health East Hills in Sydney. She has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences and has been nominated for several awards including AASW, 2024 National Excellence in Social Work award.

Nina has designed and delivered projects  for South Eastern and Central Eastern Sydney Primary Health Networks including Selfcare for Syrian Refugee families that  included; developing 90 bilingual Hope and Resilience Cards, Counselling, capacity building and training  for  complex mental health CALD clients and has  recently completed psycho social assessments and capacity building project for  resilience and Wellbeing with Gaza refugees.

As a Mental Health Professional she has demonstrated skills and experience in: Programmed Shared Medical Appointments  for weigh loss and chronic pain (SMA’s), group and individual counselling; stress management and relaxation techniques for depression and anxiety including Mindfulness, CBT, ACT; crisis intervention; counselling for grief and loss; advocacy and adjustment to health diagnosis; motivational interviewing;  advanced care and end of life care planning.

Georgette and Danielle are our professional and friendly Senior administration team. Both have current Senior First Aid qualifications and provide multifaceted support for the Medical and Acupuncture services.
